Internal Corridors
Many internal corridors have little or no natural light, so are totally reliant on the lighting scheme. Lighting needs to be coordinated with the spacing of resident’s doors to ensure good lighting when entering or leaving their home, and to allow them to recognise visitors.
CIBSE: SLL Lighting Guide 9 – Lighting for communal residential buildings 2013 recommends 100 lux for corridors.
Lighting Controls
The use of presence detectors is recommended to reduce the lighting level to 20% when the corridor is unoccupied to save energy, particularly at night when there is little or no movement in the corridors.
